This project reimagines a 70 SF “Reflection Room” within UVA's Student Health and Wellness Building as an immersive, surrogate experience of a rocky alcove, exploring architectural strategies for creating restorative, interior spaces. While the original space met wellness certification standards—providing dimmable lighting, sound masking, and visual privacy—the architecture of the space felt generic and sterile. In response, the project team - medical professionals, architecture students, and faculty - investigated how design might move beyond compliance to create restorative environments that are contextual, creative, and psychologically impactful.
